Pressed Flower Art for Your Home
/Pressing garden flowers
I love growing wildflowers, as stated here in this starter guide to backyard blooms. I love it so much because I get to be outside and watch the magic of planting a seed and getting a flower. I love it because my daughter Harriet and I garden together. I love being with her. Spending time in the garden makes me feel like a good mom and a calmer person.
When I saw our friend Carrie Waller's blog posts here and here about using pressed flowers in art work, I immediately tacked it on my Pinterest board for later use. I knew I had to find a way to memorialize all the sweet memories and feelings I get when I think about being outside with Harriet clipping flowers.
SO, thank you Carrie!!!
Here are the zinnias and cosmos of last summer that Hare and I put on wax paper and tucked into big coffee table books. Carrie says to leave them for a few weeks, I left mine for a year, mostly because I wasn't ready to make something of them. I just wanted to have them saved.
I got my pressed flowers out recently to play around and see what I might make with them. I want to make something for over my kitchen shelves. Excited to share what I come up with and happy to have art that helps me relive a really happy memory.
This art will be the trifecta: meaningful, beautiful, inexpensive!
