Beach House Style: a Breezy Interior Pairing Modern and Vintage

Beach House Style: a Breezy Interior Pairing Modern and Vintage

This summer we were lucky enough to stay in a 1960s beach house in North Carolina with my husband's family. Within five minutes of entering the house, I was texting Daly photos. Of what you ask? Well....when we first entered the house, I was blown away by the wallpaper. I think the rest of the family was blown away as well, but not in a good way. But for me, it was allllll good. I had all the hearts in my eyes. Just look at it! The wallpaper was bright and bold and whimsical and sweet and everywhere.

Mid-Century Modern Ranch Home: Creating a Modern Eclectic Patio

Mid-Century Modern Ranch Home: Creating a Modern Eclectic Patio

My Patio was in Disrepair

When we moved into our home a couple years ago, I knew our back patio had major potential, but it was a big eye sore at the time. The patio was HUGE and looked out to the small, beautiful lake that our home backs up to (the reason we bought the house); however, the previous owner had five foot shrubs surrounding 90% of the patio, blocking the view. Additionally, the patio was in disrepair. It was probably original to the home and most of it was crumbling. You couldn't walk outside barefoot because of the rough, pebbled finish that hadn't entirely flaked off. A 1920s Tulsa Owen Park Sears Kit Home

A 1920s Tulsa Owen Park Sears Kit Home

We first met Emily Netz at The Alliday Show a few years ago. She made and sold beautiful brass air plant hangers. She and I (Daly) figured out that we were both pregnant and due within a few days of one another. The excitement and anxiety of impending parenthood bonded us, but I must admit enjoying our friendship on the background of her beautiful homes has been a nice perk.

Emily and her affable husband Jeff flip houses, and if I were a house, I'd want them flipping me. They take care to respect the home's character and breathe fresh life into the walls. All the while, they are raising their sweet, handsome boys Theo and Auggie.

Oklahoma Bed and Breakfast Home Tour: Sharpe House in Checotah, OK

Oklahoma Bed and Breakfast Home Tour: Sharpe House in Checotah, OK

At the beginning of every year, we set some time aside for planning our goals and discussing our hopes and dreams for Retro Den. In past years, we've met for a few hours at a local restaurant or coffee shop, but this year we decided to get away for our yearly planning session.

This year, we treated ourselves and stayed at the beautiful Sharpe House bed and breakfast in Checotah, OK, the steerwrestling capital of the world, located just an hour southeast of Tulsa. We had followed the restoration of the 110+ year old home via our wonderful, long-time customer Renza Sharpe. We loved hearing about the renovation of her grandparents' home and couldn't wait to experience it first hand.
