Cozy & Collected Mid-Century Modern Den: Embracing Dated, Original Wood Paneling

How I embraced 1950s wood paneling to make a pretty space

Since my last den post, we've changed a lot in the den. When I sat down to think about what we've specifically done, I started listing off things like: purchased furniture that fit better, got a rug, installed lighting, hung artwork, added house plants. You know, just the basic things you do to decorate a room.

Home Styling Before & After: A Tulsa 80s Boho Bedroom

Home Styling Before & After: A Tulsa 80s Boho Bedroom

We were super pumped to do a home styling session with our bud Tasha of House Sparrow Fine Nesting this fall. Tasha has amazing taste as evidenced by her handmade textiles, put-together 80s home and general loveliness. However, Tasha's bedroom had her feeling not so good. We soon learned that we shared more than just a love of succulents when she told us she quit her professional day job to pursue a creative career. Melissa now runs a successful home interiors + organization blog, Polished Habitat, and even teaches others how to get into the blogging world. We recently met up with Melissa and enjoyed touring her home, seeing DIY projects we'd read about in person and talking with her about her business and home. Read our Q&A with Melissa below.

Small Bathroom Renovation

Small Bathroom Renovation

Things I wish I had known when I bought my first and current house:

  • ask about the age of things like the air conditioner
  • make sure there are no giant holes behind the bathroom mirror
  • tell the internet provider not to mount the cording to the outside of my house
  • finally, although I am sure there are more, verify that the "new" tile isn't just painted over mismatched tile.

The last point is what we will be discussing today.
