Home Styling Mini Session with Anne: What One Hour with Us Can Do
/These, our shining faces, are what our home styling mini-session winner Anne got to open her front door to on a recent Saturday morning. Home styling is Ashley Daly's number one favorite reason to brush her hair in the morning. So thanks for applying to our giveaway Anne.
What's a mini styling session? First you send a few photos and fill out a quick survey about your home and what inspires you. This helps us get to know a client's space and come over prepared to get the most out of our hour session. We show up with coffee for you and lots of thoughts; you take tons of notes and ask us questions.
The scene: Anne and her husband recently moved into their 1950s ranch home from a mid-2000s home in east Tulsa where they had lived for eight years. She has the same struggle many people face when moving a home full of furniture into a new and different space–it's hard to make it fit! We love working with people who have great things and just need some help reworking what they have and laying out a path for how to get where they are going.
The client's goal description for her home: Easy, bright, soothing, clean lines, natural
One hour: These before and after photos are the result of one hour of us rearranging and shopping Anne's house. We left her with more ideas and directives for achieving the look she described and showed us on her inspiration board. But in a short span of time, we got her a beautiful space to compile her plants and collect more, encouraged her to bring in her grandparents' hope chest for her new coffee table (It's thinner and allows more walking space in the center of the room, and it has storage! Mega bonus, it is meaningful.), and helped situate a new, closer to her final product, look for her mantel that better reflects the age of her home and the fresh, clean look she desires.
Follow ups: That terracotta pot by the fireplace will soon contain a taller plant. We suggested finding a larger piece of art for the mantel–perhaps blowing up a large vintage postcard or photograph. Something Anne loves.
The curtain rods have wear and are a little dated, so we encouraged Anne to refresh those with some natural, wooden ones, but to keep the curtains. They are high quality and the brass rings look nice with the brass fireplace details.
She has access to a larger version of the same rug; a larger rug will actually make the space seem bigger because it will stretch out and welcome all the furniture pieces, unifying them.
Something we love about working with people in their homes: A funny part of our work is often telling people what lovely pieces they do own and not to get rid of certain things. Or showing them a new way to use something. With Anne, we got to shop her house and found some cool art pieces she wasn't using and used them on the mantel.
Don't worry: After our session, Anne confessed she was concerned we would push buying a lot of new things (from our shop), but as much as we'd like to sell pieces from our store, we really really want to leave people feeling so good about their space and having immediate and achievable ways to reach their home style goals.
