Meet Tulsa Maker Bianca Howell of Owl and Drum. Owl and Drum is Tulsa's "one-stop shop" for modern fabrics, quilting and sewing supplies, sewing classes and gifts. When we were on 15th Street, Owl and Drum was across the street and to the east of our shop. I remember walking across the street to say hello and meet my neighbor businesses. We didn't know then, but that was the start of great friendships and business relationships. We love working with Bianca because she has an enviable knack for color and creativity. We carry her napkins, tea towels, modern quilts, and pillows in our shop. I, Ashley Daly, make tons and tons of baby clothes from the beautiful fabrics from Owl and Drum. We also host craft nights where the ladies of O&D share skills with us and customers. I always leave feeling inspired after spending time with Bianca. Read more about this awesome Tulsa maker.

When we moved into our current home, we knew we wanted to renovate the kitchen. Though definitely not the worst kitchen to exist, it's over sixty years old and kinda blah compared to the rest of the house. We'd done a handful of things to make it more attractive like painting the eat-in breakfast nook dark green (which I love and plan to keep!), removing cabinet doors, and adding a light fixture. However, in addition to falling short on looks, it also has some functional issues. For example, the oven is basically the size of an Easy-Bake oven and the vent hood is large and menacing and so high that I have to jump to turn it on. Also, due to the layout, I'm not able to put the dishes up while the dishwasher door is open and even with the light on, the pantry is dark in the evening. Homes should be functional. So yeah, we wanted to renovate.

Hands down, my favorite way to shop vintage is flea markets. There is something extra fresh and exciting about them. Vendors set up booths in a large facility or outdoor space and fill their spots with vintage treasures. Rows and rows of tiny shops to peruse! It's like an antique mall, but these booths are set up and torn down within a matter of days or even hours, so everything feels new and urgent. You cannot come back another day hoping that gold polkadot pyrex bowl will still be there. YOU HAVE TO GET IT NOW. Or you may live your lives apart forever. Cue the heartbreaking music and imagery of you stirring up chicken salad in a plain, non-polkadot bowl.
